An update from the Indiana Drought Monitor shows most of the state, including southwest Indiana, is in a moderate drought.

Portions of Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick and Spencer Counties along the Ohio River are in a Severe Drought.

Meanwhile, 63 of Indiana’s 92 counties have issued Burn Bans due to the dry conditions, including Sullivan, Daviess, Martin, Gibson, and Dubois.

According to the latest information, Knox, Pike and Greene Counties have not yet enacted Burn Bans.

Although there may be some local exceptions, a burn ban means open burning is prohibited including burning of vegetation, brush, non-contained wood or timber and building construction material.

Campfires and recreational fires are allowed if contained in a burn ring or fire pit.

Gas and charcoal grills are allowed.

If using charcoal, it must be fully extinguished when finished.
